The Golden Wings Quartet - CD Review

The Golden Wings Quartet

You've Got To Leave It Here!

Live In Concert

This month we review the video by The Golden Wings Quartet titled You've Got To Leave It Here!  Live In Concert.  The recording took place at the Temple of Compassion and Deliverance in Tupelo, Mississippi in 2004.  It was initially recorded for the MARS Record label.  The group is now on the LowRush Music label.  LowRush released this video in 2006.

The Golden Wings Quartet has been signing God’s praises for over 30 years.  The longevity of the group is reflected in their performance.  These guys can really sing.

There are 12 songs on this video.  The two (2) lead signers for the group are James Parks and Toby Coker.  Mr. Parks sings lead on “Walk The Streets Of Glory,” “Fill Up Before The Station Close,” “Don't Talk About The Church,” “Get In Touch With The Lord,” “You've Got To Leave It here!,” and “Somebody Need You Lord.”  Mr. Coker sings lead on “Heavenly Road,” “On My Journey,” “Started With My Jesus,” and “Just Can't Tell It All.”  Mr. Coker and Mr. James share lead duties on “Real In My Soul” and “Everytime I Think About Jesus.”  Each song is rooted in the traditional gospel quartet style.  Therefore, with this video you get one hour and 12 minutes of good old fashion gospel quartet music.

The location for the recording seemed to have been a good choice.  The stage was large enough and the group used every portion of the stage.

The quality of the sound is good.  There are slight variations in the recording level to some of the songs.  But, overall the sound quality is very good.

The camera shots are okay.  There are really great close-ups of the members of the group.  However, once the cameras leave the individual group members the shots are dark and in some instance difficult to view.  The audience appears to be in the “shadow” most of the time.  Most of the audience shots are somewhat fuzzy or blurred.  Overall, throughout the video, the lighting is not good.  But, the close-ups of the individual group members are very clear and what is lacking in lighting is made up for in the overall quality of the sound of the video.  In addition, it appears that the guys were really enjoying the song service.  Therefore, the energy they bring to the stage also helps to make up for the difficulties with the lighting.

There are no actual interviews on this video.  There are, however, comments being made by members of the group before each song.

One plus to the video is that the name of the song and the name of the lead singer is shown on the video at the beginning of each song.

It is good that LowRush decided to release this video.  It may not be the most polished video by a gospel quartet group.  But, it certainly is one that reflects a group having a great time singing praises to our Lord and Savior.  It also serves to document the superb talent of a group that obviously enjoy singing and spreading the Good News to others.

Therefore, we recommend that you add this DVD to your collection.  To order this video contact LowRush Music at  (770) 464-0349 or visit their website, www.lowrush.com.
