Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is the hometown of one of the most exciting gospel group in the music industry. They are, none other than The Lighthouse Singers.
It all began in 1981 when The Lighthouse Gospel Singers formed a young group with their sons (ranging from ages seven to twelve). The young men were collectively referred to as The Lighthouse Juniors. In the beginning, The Lighthouse Juniors would perform popular music at churches and gospel related functions.
As they matured, they began writing and arranging their own music. In 1988 they produced their first album entitled I've Been Down So Long. The album was co-produced by Elton Mitchell, formerly with Willie Neal Johnson and The Gospel Keynotes. By 1995, their success in their hometown was so great they knew it was time for a national release. Thus, A New Direction was recorded in Jackson, Mississippi and released on The Melendo Record Label. That project was produced by Mr. Leonard Williams, formerly of The Williams Brothers.
Because of God's blessings, along with the maturity these young men have demonstrated throughout their musical and spiritual growth, the group was due for a name change. Therefore, The Lighthouse Juniors became The Lighthouse Singers. They are primed and poised to reach and minister to God's people in song around the world.
The new CD and DVD are titled
Trusting IN Jesus ...Live. The recording took place at the Living
Faith Christian Center, Baton Rouge, LA, where Bishop Raymond W. Johnson
is the pastor. The members of the group are Levie Wright, Jr., Jerry
Dunbar, Dwayne Williams, Kelvin Green, Demetris Dunbar, Marcus Jack, Jesse
Jack, Ricky Jarvis and Cecil Green. Also appearing on this project
are Living Faith Christian Center Choir and Castro Coleman.
The songs - 1. Any Day - Jerry Dunbar handles the lead duties on this song. With much finesse he rejoices as he delivers an awesome mid-tempo song that remind us that Any Day may be our day to see our Savior. The song conveys a great message. It will certainly have you thinking about your destiny.
2. There Is Help - Jerry Dunbar continues lead duty on this song. The song tell you where to look for 'your help.' Jerry delivers a great 2-minute intro to the song. This is the longest song on the project, yet as you listen to it, you will find yourself thinking that it ended to soon. The background harmony is tight. The instrumentation is outstanding and does not overshadow the vocals. You will be playing this one over and over.
3. One More Day - Levie Wright, Jr., takes over lead duty on this upbeat song. This is actually an upbeat song of praise giving thanks to our Lord and Savior for allowing us to see "One More Day." The Living Faith Christian Center Choir really enhances the background vocals on this song.
4.
You Are A Winner – Castro Coleman joins Brother Wright in
sharing lead duties on this track. This song of encouragement reminds us
that with God we are winners. This is one of four songs on the project
that is over 6 minutes in length. However, it still seems that it ended
too soon.
7. The Quartet Legend's Medley - One of the many enjoyable moments you will experience when attending a concert by The Lighthouse Singers is when they honor legends of quartet gospel. On this project they allow you to reminisce with Rev. Ruben Willingham of the Swanee Quintet, Hardy Clifton and Rev. Tommy Spann of The Brooklyn Allstars, Lil’ Shoot of The Fantastic Violinaires, and Joe Ligon of The Mighty Clouds of Joy.
8. Nobody Knows - The guys put their unique vocals and arrangement to this very popular song. Listen to the emotions in Brother Wright’s vocals. The background harmony really compliments the lead singer on this track.
9. Peace of Mind - Jerry Dunbar and Levie Wright share lead duties on this upbeat song. This was the first single released from the project. It set the pace and put all on notice that this new project from The Lighthouse Singers is one of the best CD and DVD of 2009.
10.
Great Reunion - Worship services, even gospel song services,
usually end with an Altar Call and the benediction. Not sure the
guys had that in mind when they chose this song to end the concert, but it
certainly have the feel of an altar call and certainly that of the
benediction. It is the perfect song to end the services.
