Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC's "Good Time" - Video Review

Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC's

Good Time - LIVE IN MEMPHIS

With the highly anticipated release from Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC’s scheduled for this month, we decided to take a look at some of the groups’ prior recordings.  Love Will Go All The Way was the groups’ first concert video. It paved the way for what has become one of the greatest gospel quartet groups of this era.  The second live recording was Good Time LIVE IN MEMPHIS. This video is one of the highest grossing for a gospel quartet group of all times.  Other videos are Right on Time and Tell The Angels.

There is something about the Good Time CD and video that makes it a must have for anyone interested in gospel music.  By now all fans of Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC’s should have this video in their collection.  For those that have not taken the time to watch this video you are missing one of the most anointed recordings ever available for your DVD player.  The video brings the CD to life in ways that have you feeling you are sitting in the audience and that the guys are singing only to you.  There is something about this video that prevents it from growing old.  In fact, each time you play it you are sure to find something new and hear something you did not hear before.

Much has been written about
Lee’s ability to stand “flat-footed” and just sing.  And, much has been written about his down home style of singing. You witness both with this video.  The vocals cut you in a way that leaves you better for having listened to the song.  The songs are uplifting, encouraging and spiritual.  They get the message across in a straight forward no nonsense way that does not mince words – "Can’t run, can’t hide, there’s no need to try;" "I find no fault in God, I find no fault in Him;" "don’t let nobody fool you telling you when you dead you’re done after the grave there’s a judgment that’s sure to come."  The message in each song is direct and to the point. The songs are just as meaningful today as they were when recorded in 2000. Maybe that is way the video will never grow old.

The recording, as with all of the group’s live recordings, occurred at The Temple of Deliverance, Memphis, Tennessee.  The sanctuary was full to capacity.  It seems that just as the guys were ministering to the audience, in some ways, the audience was ministering to the group.  There were continued exchanges between the group and the audience.  The audience was, from the beginning to the end, an integral part of this recording.

The video contains the same songs (not in the same order) that are on the CD.  The lighting is great. There are many close-ups of the members of the group and musicians.  There are also great shots of the audience.  The quality of the sound is outstanding.  There are no highs or lows in the sound quality. The recording level is consistent throughout the video.

The project is vintage traditional gospel quartet.  If you are looking for a good video that captures the essence of great gospel quartet singing, then you will want to add this video to your collection.  And, if you have only the VHS, you will want to obtain the DVD.  Soon this video will be a collector’s item.  So, you are encourage to get your copy while they are still available.  The project represents a piece of gospel music history that you will be disappointed when in the future it becomes very hard to find and costly.
