Slim & The Supreme Angels

Have You Heard The News?

Since the late 1950s Rev. Howard "Slim" Hunt has traveled with The Supreme Angels over the gospel highways brining their unique sound to fans and friends.  The membership has changed over the years, but their commitment to their calling has remained the same.  This project represents the group's first trip back into the studio after an extremely long string of "Live" recordings. Produced by Blackberry Owner and Williams Brother lead vocalist Melvin Williams,  the vocal blend and instrumentation on this CD is literally flawless.

On a whole this release has been heralded as one of the group's best projects in years.  The mixture of old and new songs is to be expected from a group with such a huge library to pull from.  For the first time we hear from many of the group members that have served as background vocalists for years. For example, Legendary guitarist Sugar Hightower returns to the lead mic after having had an extremely successful career as a child with his brothers The Hightower Brothers. With such an extremely powerful and anointed voice one can only wonder what took so long.

"Have You Heard The News" is definitely one of those projects that you can leave in your CD player and listen to all day long.  The mixture of voices and styles makes for an enjoyable listen.  For those that have been listening to Slim throughout the years you are sure to remember numbers like "God Got It", "Old Time Religion", and "Well Done".  While the old numbers are great, it is by all means the new songs that really kick on this project.  To begin with, the title cut has quickly become a favorite throughout the industry.  Slim is in good voice and the Supreme Angels Legendary smooth background vocalists ride every twist and turn on this number.

As with any Supreme Angel project Rev. Hunt will have some smooth  praise and worship like ballads.  This release features the testimony in song "I'm Not Ashamed", the beautiful "Miracle", and Slim's testimonial in song "It Won't Be This Way Always".  As was aforementioned, this project features some other voices from the Supreme Angels ranks.  Bass guitarist Big Mike Kimpson shows his lead vocalist skills on "Thank You Lord", group drummer Maurice Robinson on "You Brought Me Through", and Sugar Hightower on "Hero".  Through adversity and loss of lead singers the Supreme Angels have shown that they are still determined to sing God's praises.

The Legend continues with this brand new offering from Slim & The Supreme Angels. This new release will make a great addition to all quartet fan's collection.
