The Legend has returned.  Spencer Taylor and The Highway QC’s new project “He Said” is another offering from the Marxan label.  This project was recorded live in Morton, Mississippi.  You will not find many new songs on this project.  However, in spite of the QC’s revisiting old songs the CD is a good effort. 

The lineup for this project included Spencer Taylor, Jr., Spencer Taylor, III, Joseph Britt, Stanley Richardson, Steven Gardner, Michael Johnson and Joseph Wooden.   The project begins with “Felt A Change.”   This is a good song to start the live recording.  The harmony on this song is tight.  The next cut, “Take Jesus With You,” is a very thought provoking song written by Paul Porter.  The song reminds us to ensure that you always have Jesus with you, no matter what the situation.  This song will definitely grow on you.

The title song “He Said” is next, and although a little weak on the harmony, it is worth a second listen.  Spencer Taylor really works the word to the next song, “Something on my mind.”  The next song is aptly titled “Medley.”  The “Medley” teases you and begs you to ask why did the QC’s not do a full version of “Oh How Wonderful” on this “live” recording.  That would have really been one of the highlights of the night.

The last six songs on the project are “Just To Behold His Face.” “Serve Jesus,” “Plenty Good Room,”’ “I’m Going Trough,”  “I’m Going Through,” “Cry No More,” and “Do You Love Him.”  “Plenty Good Room” have some of the trappings of Doc McKenzie’s “Use Me Lord.”  The drive song is “Do You Love Him,”  is also the longest song on the CD - 9:45.  This is a great song to end the program.  It would certainly leave you tapping you feet and clapping your hands. 

One of the drawbacks to the project is the lack of crowd participation.  As much as the QC’s asked for it, they did not receive the kind of crowd response you would expect for a live recording by The Legend.

This project is worth purchasing.  It is a must for any quartet gospel music enthusiast.  I give Spencer Taylor and The Highway QC’s an 8 out of a possible 10.  Click HERE to purchase the project.  Click on the red song title to hear "Do You Love Him."
