Evelyn Turrentine Agee

Go Through

It is rare that an artist would have outstanding products one right behind the other.  Well, Evelyn Turrentine Agee has done just that.  In fact she has had four (4) great projects within the past five (5) years.  Since becoming a household name with the mega hit “God Did It” on the project bearing the same name, she has recorded “Testimony” (2002), “It’s Already Done” (2003) and now “Go Through.”

Therefore this month we spotlight Evelyn Turrentine Agee’s new recording “Go Through.”  This is a live recording that took place in Detroit, Michigan.  And from the first track you know that you are in for a shouting good time.  You are presented with hard drive songs, solid traditional gospel quartet songs, and soft thought provoking ballads.  In other words, Evelyn Turrentine Agee gives you a great variety on this project.

The project begins with the toe tapping, hand clapping, on your feet shouting “Welcome Holy Spirit.”  Evelyn sings from the depth of her heart on this song.  You can almost fell the vibes from the song that certainly provided an exciting invitation for the Holy Spirit. The next track is “Go Through.”     There is heavy instrumentation on this song.  This is certainly one of the best drive songs on the project.  And at 6 minutes and 34 seconds, it is the longest song on the project.  It spite of its length, it ends to soon.  Evelyn invites you to take a praise break (instrumental interlude) on this song and it would not have been disappointing if the 'break' was longer.  The band is really jamming on this song.  If you have ever seen her in concert, you know that her sons play in her band.  Well, her sons are not playing on this project, buy the musicians chosen for this project are at their best on this song.

“Break Faith Praise” is the next song on the project.  It is upbeat and encourages you to give thanks unto the Lord.  This is followed by “I Am Yours.”  This is one of the ballads.  Evelyn describes it as her “love song.”  It is an awesome song.  Bishop Neal Robeson joins Evelyn on this song.  What a duet treat.  You will find yourself playing this song over and over.  It is just that good.

The tempo picks back up with “Praise Him.”  Evelyn and The Warriors take you to ‘church’ with this song.  The audience participation on this song is evident in that it feels that the group was feeding off of the energy of the crowd, which caused Evelyn to shift into a higher gear and really PRAISE HIM.

“Call Jesus” is the next song on the project.  It is an upbeat song that confirms for the listener that you can call on Jesus at anytime and in any situation.  By the way, the song is the alternate title of the CD.  You will find the CD online and in various outlets with the title “Call Jesus.”   The title of the CD is not important, what is important is that you are in a praise and worship service with this project.

“Greater,” “Deliverance,” and “Glory and Praise” are the next three (3) tracks.  “Deliverance” is one of the thought provoking ballads.  Even though, it is a little on the Rhythm and Blues style, it will grow on you.  And it certainly carries with it a very important message.

“Thank You” and "God Did It” are the final tracks of the project.  "Thank You” is not the same song that was on the “It’s Already Done” CD.  However, the message is the same – giving God thanks for all that He has done for us.

Don’t expect this version of “God Did It” to be just an extension of the song from earlier recordings.  Yes, it is the same song, but it has a fresh feel to it.  Be prepared for an ending to the song that leaves you wanting more.

This is undeniably a live recording and the audience certainly is into the service.  Their participation can be heard and felt throughout the project.  You will not be disappointed with this project.  There are fifty-one minutes and fifty-one seconds of nothing but praise and worship on this project, with a gospel quartet flair to it.

On the whole this release from Evelyn Turrentine Agee is a superb project.  We give Evelyn Turrentine Agee’s “Go Through" a 9 out of 10.  To order this project click “Call Jesus.”  Click on the title to hear “Thank You
