The Concert Supremes

We Got A Message

After receiving this CD I happened to be taking a trip to get my car washed.  With this CD in the player I turned it off as I pulled up to the carwash center.  By the time I walked outside to watch as the attendants dried my car off, I noticed the sound of the Concert Supremes.  Obviously they must have hit the button when wiping down the dash.  After the first few bars of the Concert Supremes other attendants started coming over and having a good time there in the car wash lot. The question I was asked when the individuals found out that it was my car was Who are these guys?

With those words said, I can simply tell you before going any further this is a perfect 10 CD.  Ronald Kennedy, Marvin Howard, and the rest of the fellas have returned to their hit making ways on this brand new release for Dwight Gordon’s Quartet Boyz records.  I do have to say though, the thing that amazes me the most is that the Concert Supremes are even better live then any of their recordings.

So what’s so great about this CD and why choose it for this review? First, this CD represents a major change that I see in the quartet industry.  Simply put, the fans want substance in their songs.  The days of Holy Ghost, Holy Ghost, are gone.  People have serious problems and are looking for a serious message in their music.  As the title implies The Concert Supremes have a message.  From the start of the CD with the jumpin’ number “Water N 2 Wine”, the fellas make it clear that they wish to share a message of salvation and hope with you.

Those that have read these reviews throughout the years know that I never will be a fan of any type of drum kit or drum machine.  The “Live” drum sound is missing on this project but it really is not a big deal.  The music and singing contained in each song really takes your attention away from the drums or anything else that might distract you. So what songs should you look out for on this release.  Well, that answer begins and ends with “My Questions”.  This beautiful ballad written and lead by Ronald Kennedy reminds us of all the questions in our life that have one simple answer found in Jesus Christ.  What a song!!  While Brother Kennedy does take the lead on the majority of the songs his partner in crime is the amazing Marvin Howard.

Many will remember Marvin from last year’s quartet radio favorite “The Only Help I Know”.  His powerful yet smooth vocals highlight the title cut “Messenger”, “Believe, Baptize, Born Again”, and “Here I Am Lord”.  Each and every song is packed with message laden lyrics and tight harmonies.  Also, for those that remember their previous release “Just 4 You” you will remember “Daddy’s Song”.  All I can tell you is this brand new release has “Momma’s Song” and this medley of classic quartet songs is awesome.

There’s no room for complaints on this one.  If your looking for a great new traditional quartet group to add to your collection pick up The Concert Supremes “We Got A Message”.  To hear from this CD you may click on the song title “Momma’s Song”.  To purchase the project e-mail visit Provocator Productions website or call Quartet Boyz Records at (903) 372-6980.
