2010: Dennis Lee Bowers, of Tommy Ellison & The Singing Stars a/k/a The Legendary Singing Stars, died in Augusta, GA.

2012: Eddie Garvin, of The Morning Stars of Savannah, GA, died in Savannah, GA.

1949: Margaret Allison & The Angelic Gospel Singers hit the R&B charts with "Touch Me, Lord Jesus."

2007: Reverend Julius Guinyard, Manager and Lead Singer of The Gospel Allstars of Orangeburg, SC, died.

2010: Kevin Mathews, Drummer for The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, died in Cincinnati, OH.


2010:  Freddie Branch, of Freddie Branch & The Singing Stars of Louisburg, NC, died in Louisburg, NC.

2015:  Percy E.  Griffin, Sr., of The Swanee Quintet, died in Savannah, GA.

1927: Marion Williams is born, Miami, Fla.


2009: Gospel legend Marie Knight died in New York City at the age of 84.

2011: Victoria Hawkins-Westbrook, gospel singer, died in Detroit, MI.

2014: Mrs. Amanda Williams, the mother of The Williams Brothers, died in Jackson, MS.


2012: Ms. Henry Thomas-Harrison, of Downhome Gospel Productions, died in Chicago, IL.


Margaret Allison formed the Angelic Gospel Singers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1942. In 1949, the group's gospel classic "Touch Me, Lord Jesus" sold more than 100,000 copies and reached number thirteen on the national R&B charts.
