Cleophus Robinson's Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO., is destroyed by fire. 17th 1982: Mary Johnson Davis dies, Philadelphia, PA. 2005: John Jefferson formerly of The Sensational Nightengales dies. 20th Paul Porter of The Christianaires is born. 1949: Margaret Allison & The Angelic Gospel Singers hit the R&B charts with "Touch Me, Lord Jesus." 2007: Reverend Julius Guinyard, Manager and Lead Singer of The Gospel Allstars of Orangeburg, SC, died. 23rd 1924: Sister Wynona Carr is born, Cleveland Ohio. 2006: Charles D. Derrick, Jr., one of the first gospel music radio announcers in SC, died. 25th Rev. Curtis Watson is born in St. Louis, MO. 1935: Willie Neal Johnson is born in Tyler, Tex. 26th Clay Graham of The Pilgrim Jubilees is born.
29th 1927: Marion Williams is born, Miami, Fla.
Margaret Allison formed the Angelic Gospel Singers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1942. In 1949, the group's gospel classic "Touch Me, Lord Jesus" sold more than 100,000 copies and reached number thirteen on the national R&B charts.
