Harvest Time

For the month of March we visit Freeport, New York. The hometown of the exciting Brown Boyz. Their new CD is titled Harvest Time.

The Brown Boyz were organized “in 1982, under the management of Deaconess Anna Brown and the late Willie Brown, Sr. At that time, the young group consisted of three brothers and cousins, ranging in ages between 10 and 14.” “As a result of years of dedication to perfecting their music and sound, The Brown Boyz developed their own unique and versatile style” of gospel music. The members of the group are Dennis Brown, Curtis Brown, Willie Brown, Jr., Joe "JoJothumper" Williams, Vernon Duke, Dean Lee, Charles Norris, and Brandon Daniels.

Several years ago, the group released the CD Jump For Joy. That was a good project and it established
The Brown Boyz as one of the groups to watch in this quartet gospel genre.  Since that time, the group has appeared on the CD Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson Presents The Spiritual Voices and Friends. The new CD, Harvest Time, is the group’s best offering to date.

There are twelve (12) songs on this project. Five (5) were written by
Spanky Williams.  Spanky can also be heard as part of the background vocals on the project.  There is a good mix of ballads and upbeat tempo songs on the CD.  There are no hard drive songs on this project. However, several songs come close to what may be considered a drive song; such as “Somebody Prayed for Me,” “Harvest Time,” and “Power of God.”

Other songs of note include "I Want A Love Like That", "I Can’t Make It Without You", and "The Invitation."  While there are definitely others that can be mentioned these three standout. "Love Like That" is ‘easy listening’ at its best.  The words will really have you thinking about the depth and breadth of God’s love.  Radio Angels may not add it to their play-list, but you will find it hard to move away from this song.

The next selection “I Can’t Make It Without You" is one of the songs that was written by Spanky Williams.  This is another song where the words are very powerful. It acknowledges the awesome power of God. It is closely akin to “I Want A Love Like This.”  There may not be a lot of toe tapping or handclapping, but you sure will find yourself appreciating the words.

"The Invitation" is an altar call. Several groups recently have included songs that could be  considered Altar Calls on their CDs. Well, "The Invitation" is one of the best.  The Brown Boyz are joined by Pastor Daryl Bass on this song.  He extends a heartfelt invitation to turn your life over to God.  Close your eyes while listening to this song and you just might think you are in the sanctuary.  If you were looking for a reason to buy this CD, this song is it.  You might find yourself buying extra copies of this CD just to give to family and friends for "The Invitation."

Overall this is a very good project by
The Brown Boys.  You should be able to find this CD in your local record store.  We give The Brown BoysHarvest Time a 9 out of 10.  Click HERE to purchase the CD online.  Click on the title to hear "Power Of God.
